All Retch and NO Vomit.

You wake up in the morning, you have a cup of coffee, go through the usualy morning routine. Make yourself looking presentable for society. You make the journey to wherever your place of employment is. You do work to benefit others and then you come back home. Maybe some dinner, TV and a beer. Iced Tea if your in AA. Then its back to sleep only to wake up and repeat the process. We really dont take into account how much of our lives is consumed by this. Its what I grew up seeing. My father working his ass off to support his family. Always telling me, “Son, sometimes I really dread going to work…but I have to.”

When did this become the staple for people to live their lives? Why do we go to a job we hate everyday? I have been confused by this since day 1 on why human beings who only get one life and one life only to waste so much time on something. You figure if we work every week day since the time we are 16 to about 70 years old, then we have spent more than half our lives doing something we dont want to do. Why do we do that to ourselves? Money? Is money everything? You go to a job to earn money to pay bills to go on living to keep working. What kind of a life is that? Where is the sense in that? Just look around you…everything has become money. The house you live in, the car you drive, the food you eat, the hooker you fucked; everything is money! But we spend more time making the money than we do enjoying it. And most never have a moment in life where they dont owe money. So where does that leave us?

You get one life. Your born, you die. Thats it! Our short existance on this earth should not be spent doing things we hate in order to fit in with a staple that we so arrogantly labeled society.

Looking around growing up I saw what the majority were doing and what was considered normal. Go to school, graduate, go to college, get a job, start a family. I just dont see it that way. Why is college so important? To get a good job right? Why does someone need college to learn? Learning is acheived by the willingness to do so and to embrace the world around you. Not spend endless amounts of money learning things I have no interest in to get a job to make more money to pay off the money I owe for learning the stuff I didnt want to learn.

Wouldnt you rather spend the only life you had doing something you love doing? By saying on your death bed that you lived every day to its absolute fullest? Do any of you go to sleep everynight knowing that if it were your last day earth, you spent it the way you wanted to? If the answer is NO, then you are wasting your life.

What do you desire? What makes you itch? What sort of a situation would you like?

Let’s suppose, I do this often in vocational guidance of students, they come to me and say, well, we’re getting out of college and we have the faintest idea what we want to do. So I always ask the question, what would you like to do if money were no object? How would you really enjoy spending your life?

Well, it’s so amazing as a result of our kind of educational system, crowds of students say well, we’d like to be painters, we’d like to be poets, we’d like to be writers, but as everybody knows you can’t earn any money that way. Or another person says well, I’d like to live an out-of-doors life and ride horses. I said you want to teach in a riding school? Let’s go through with it. What do you want to do?

When we finally got down to something, which the individual says he really wants to do, I will say to him, you do that and forget the money, because, if you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you will spend your life completely wasting your time. You’ll be doing things you don’t like doing in order to go on living, that is to go on doing things you don’t like doing, which is stupid. Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way.

And after all, if you do really like what you’re doing, it doesn’t matter what it is, you can eventually turn it – you could eventually become a master of it. It’s the only way to become a master of something, to be really with it. And then you’ll be able to get a good fee for whatever it is. So don’t worry too much. That’s everybody is – somebody is interested in everything, anything you can be interested in, you will find others will. But it’s absolutely stupid to spend your time doing things you don’t like, in order to go on spending things you don’t like, doing things you don’t like and to teach our children to follow in the same track.

See what we are doing, is we’re bringing up children and educating to live the same sort of lifes we are living. In order that they may justify themselves and find satisfaction in life by bringing up their children to bring up their children to do the same thing, so it’s all retch, and no vomit it never gets there. And so, therefore, it’s so important to consider this question,

What do I desire?
